    Hi,
I just ordered an Ultrabay Adaptor for my new W520 and I want to get a 500GB 7200rpm HDD to put into the adaptor. Can anyone help me to make sure I get one that fits? Or will any laptop HDDs fit?

For the W520 pretty much any 9.5mm laptop drive will fit into Ultrabay Adaptor quite easily.

12.7mm laptop harddrives will fit, too (up to 1TB but <= 5400rpm). Depending on which SATA ultrabay adaptor you ordered, it may leave a gap. But it will work fine.

LOL! I deserve that for not reading all the specs. I guess it'll be a good drive for a USB3 enclosure.

The gap is in the Ultrabay Caddy III drive door. No problem unless you use the machine in blowing sand.

Why not order the 500GB Hitachi 7200 rpm and put it in the caddy and put a SSD in the main drive slot?

And if you want a HDD in the main slot match it by size and type in the Caddy and use cloning software to back up.

There's so far no official Lenovo 12.7mm caddy, however, there are some unofficial ones that are floating around--usually, these work as well.

Actually, there is another problem with the 2.5" Enterprise SATA drives: They need 5V and 12V rails, but the ultrabay only supplies 5V.
