I would expect to see a new graphics engine before we get full blown sequels to Half Life, Counter-Strike, or Team Fortress.

 

This. Source is great, but it's ending it's run. maybe that is what valve is working on?

 

Doubtful, the great thing about the source engine is it's all modular, and can be upgraded/updated without having to rewrite things that work (like the physics, sound engines ect).

 

Source engine has been upgraded all along. To be honest, I don't care about updated graphics, just give me the same great story they've done all along. The end.

 

Haha you guessed that right. Although Blizzard was tons better when they were not taken over by Activision.

 

Yeah, lots have changes since the release of HL2.
They added HDR, multicore rendering, better shaders and much more.
But they patched HL2 to the newer Source engine so you cant see the old one longer.

 

It doesn't really matter what they call it or how much of the original engine they scrap or patch. It's an engine. It's entirely about capability and performance. I would be happy if they would start making games that look at least as good as other games coming out this year. Source games currently look pretty dated.
