My new Sager monitor was damaged during shipping, so I have to send it back before I get a replacement and it will be down a couple of days. Can I put some electrical tape on the connection cable, plug my laptop into an external monitor and still use it safely, or should I leave it off and unplugged until the new screen arrives?

Just leave the broken display in the laptop and use it as is.

I have to send it back before I get them to send me a new one. So either it's down for a few days or I tape up the connection and use it solely on an external monitor.

Dont use a high residue tape, something like a painter paper tape is best, or just put a plastic bag over the lose cable end and tape the bag shut instead.
