30 minutes of life for a 4 years old laptop is pretty good and i don't think that you can do better if you take care of your battery.

Putting a battery in afreezer for 3 years should be very nice in your world but in mine, a battery is to be used as a battery or as an alternative power in some case (blackout).

That's what an UPS is for.

An UPS is a battery. I've had my HP DV9500T on its expansion base "Charging" for over two years, and it still has the same 2.5 hrs of "life" it had when it was brand new. Newer batteries don't have a memory, and shouldn't need to be discharged on a regular basis. Having said that, I haven't seen any documentation that said it hurts to discharge a battery on a regular basis.

It's not about the memory effect, the NiCD days are long gone. Heat kills electronic devices, and batteries are no exception. That's all.

You can argue all you want but in the end i'm spending less money on batteries than you do. :D

Thinkpad has an option to increase battery life by lowering the battery charge threshold. I don't think any other brand has it. It also has battery maintenance mode to full cycle battery.
