Anyone know if it's possible and if so does anyone happen to have the part numbers for the two 285 cards required for it?

If the M17x is offered with that configuration, am pretty sure it will work. Part number is [320-9009]

I know that the 280s and 260s will not work with the r2 but the 285s are offered with it so they might work.

It should work, at least with the latest BIOS but I fail to see the reason - the cards are very similar in performance. Why waste your money?

Mostly because of driver issues, honestly I don't really care but when I am getting less then 50 FPS with damn near min settings on my 4870's in crossfire on Black Ops, something is wrong with the cards and Dell/Alienware screwed me out of my warranty when they sent me the R2 replacement for my R1 (it took nearly a year with 6 months of that year my R1 wouldn't even turn on). I was pissed. I still am. And now I can't play a game without crap performance when others on here with the 5870's and nVidia cards are getting 60+ at all times with max settings.

I get 40-45 in Black ops too. But once I enable AA, FPS jumps to 80-100. try turning on AA and see if that fixes the issue.

Most likely an issue with Black Ops itself. I've heard of a ton of people having issues with it.

Going from 4870s to GTX285s isn't an upgrade, they're about the same. That's a hell of a lot of money to waste.

Is it just black ops or ALL games that give you the performance problems?

yeah the drivers are not any better, that is a myth. the 285s are def not an upgrade, and likely have another issue as im getting 45-50 FPS with near max settings @ 1080p resolution. and TBh the game isnt worth worrying about it. like everyone else says its a waste of cash.

A very questionable move based on the issues with one game. Even Nvidia users have reported frame rate troubles with this title. With the right drivers, you should get the same benefits that most 5870 users are getting since the 4870s are still quite powerful beasts.
