i have a Alienware 15 r4 and I know the revisions such as my r4 changes what you can upgrade etc.
    I have a i7 8750-h and a Nvidia 1070

The same machine but more money has a i9 8950HK and a Nvidia 1080.

My question is in theory down the road shouldn’t I be able to upgrade both the Cpu And video card if I liked? Honestly I probably would want to try the cpu before jumping from a 1070 to a 1080. Just curious how you all feel? Good and bad I trust and enjoy the comments . Especially be douche bag ones. We know there will be at least one which will make me laugh to start the day. Thanks for your help .

This forum is for the older Alienware M15x model (circa 2009-2010).

    You want the 2015+ forums.

You can't upgrade the CPU or GPU in that machine, both of them are soldered to the motherboard. The only way you can upgrade it is buying a new motherboard with the chips you want on it.

And the 1080 will be Max-Q. On top he will need a new TRIPOD heatsink.

I wound up just ordering what I wanted in the first place so got the i9 8950HK 6 core supposedly boost clock to 5 GHZ , processor , GTX 1080 with 8GB gddr5x, 32GB DDR4 2666mhz, I changed the hard drive to only one 512GB pcie m.2 class 50 SSD, this leaves the 2.5 inch spot open for my Samsung 512GB SSD, and I’ll have one empty m.2 slot open. I even upgraded the screen to the 120hz , 5ms, g-synch and for an extra $25 even upgraded to the Bluetooth 5.0 killer 1550. I then argued with the guy where I got the full coverage , in home , all parts covered for 5 years!! Lol i had it for one year with my 18. Twice they sent new motherboards and the guy came to the house and fixed it and i remember saying next laptop I get I will get more then 1 year . Well i wasn’t paying $500 so we worked it out by him discounting other items etc.

Moral of the story is argue enough And long enough and they will give in when you threaten to walk away with your top of the line new laptop purchase .
