I'm pretty sure it's going to vary on a company to company basis. Nvidia might pressure them to switch over though.

It would make sense to switch really, if its a more energy efficient design. That much more batterly life.

For now, the 9-series are Asus and Acer exclusive. At least the dieshrinks are. If/when G94 and G96 based gpus come, they will likely be found in other laptops.

    Hi guys,

I've been looking over this for a couple of months now and am still slightly confused as to which will really perform better in the games i play. I'm aware that the 8700M GT is the more 'futureproof DX10' GPU and it has higher clocks. However from the benchmark list i've been using:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile...tml?&doom3=1&fear=1&or=0&search=&sort=fearmax

shows the 7950 GTX as performing much higher in both fear and doom. Unfortunately the 7950 isn't offered nearly as much as the 8700 so i'll probably end up going with the 8700. If i was using the 8700 with XP and DX9would there be an increased performance in gaming over vista and DX10?

I was going to go with the dell XPS m1710 but that product seems to have been discontinued, so now i think i'll choose the alienware m9750. I'll probably upgrade the RAM and HDD myself since it's so much cheaper. What sort of FPS would i expect to get playing games like COH, Bioshock, World in Conflict at 1680x1050 on medium-high settings?

That's with the T7200 processor and 3GB 667mhz ram btw.

Thanks for any help/comments/tips in advance,
    Rich

The 7950GTX is some 20-25% faster than the 8700M GT, and at higher resolutions, the difference is even larger.

The 8700mGT is basically an overclocked 8600mGT. Since it's basically a 6-series card, it's midrange, but the Go 7950GTX is high-end "enthusiast" class, so it should be (and is) a good bit stronger than the 8700mGT

One thing to note though, the 8700M GT, as all 8th series card are better OCers than the 7950GTX which can barely pass 6k in 3dmarks.

I am pretty sure this is based on old benchmarks that didn't take into account the changes made with the 169-series drivers and above.

The 8700m outperforms should perform roughly the same as a 7950GTX at resolutions 1280x1024 with some older-style games (especailly FEAR) showing the 7950GTX advantage and some newer shader-intensive games (especially oblivion) showing the 8700m an advantage. At higher resolutions, the 8700m starts having issues... and yes they are significant.

At 1920x1200, I could believe the 7950GTX would show a 25% difference as the 8700m is choking itself with lack of memory bandwidth.

    hi guys
am a bit confused over here
it's very well known for the desktop versions of these cards that the 8600 GS beats the crap outta the ATI 2600

but i read in many places that the mobile edition of 2600 beats the 8600m GS

    is that true???
    please confirm guys
and kindly confirm with true benchmark results :D

    cheers

The HD 2600 is closer to the 8600M GT and totally destroys the 8600M GS.
