Ubuntu: Enabling Metacity Compositing

    for those that don't want to use compiz, but need compositing for say, Gnome-do Docky:

    Alt F2 >Gconf-editor>Apps>Metacity>General> [] Compositing Manager

    FWIW....I didn't know, had always used Compiz....duh on me! :cool:

    You can also add that compiz icon to your taskbar which allows you to casually switch back and forth.

    Switch to metacity to free up some ram/gpu for gaming or high def media.

    or even better remove gnome and install kde 4.3 :D

    I use the compiz icon to switch when I'm gaming, but it makes my dock go away? Is there any way to make awn manager work in metacity?

    Yeah....turn on compositing in Metacity like in the first post.....;)
