    Hey all,

Im using an acer laptop, which is usually on a lot of the time, which leads to the laptop getting very hot to touch (the laptop seems to run hot anyway). I was wondering if turning my laptop upside down while its on will help release the heat better than if it is sitting on the table with no access to air.

I have started to do this, and I cant imagine that it would lead to anymore damage than I am already putting it through with the prolonged high levels of heat it generates.

Is there any reason that I should not do this?

    Thanks!

How do you use the built in screen when it's upside down?

It shouldn't hurt it at all if you are gentle, but there are better ways to solve a heat issue. Chaz wrote an excellent cooling guide that you can use to help solve some of the heat issues.

    lololol @ WackyT's question.

maybe open up the laptop and clean the dust out which causes heat.

I do that too sometimes, I have an Acer. If I need to leave it on to download a torrent or something, yeah, I just turn it with the underside up, cos that gets really hot.

    Wait.

I leave my laptop on all night occasionally downloading and charging my iPod and it doesn't overheat?

Neither do any of the 5-6 laptops I own...

keep them clean, undervolt, and no problems should happen.

I agree, clean it out rather than leave it upsede down, it shouldn't overheat.

Clean it out, then get a cooling pad. I don't have problems with mine being warmer than I like until the middle of the summer, when the ambient temperature is above my normal running temperatures (then the metal casings become a nightmare).

    Laptops can get pretty hot.

About 3 weeks ago in my area, a laptop left plugged in on the bed and forgotten caused a house fire. no one died but the family pet.

Well, I can rotate my screen 180 degrees. But how do you hold the laptop up while typing upside down? Thank God I keep my vents clean. This'd be a real pain!

    Hey guys,

Thanks for all the replies!! I dont use the computer when it is upside down, so i dont need to look at the screen. If i need to use it then i turn it back around and open it back up.

So far anyway there has been a huge difference in the heat when you turn it upside down. My laptop would get uncomfortably hot to touch, but turning it upside down lowers the heat to a normal temperature.

My laptop has always run hot, even from the very beginning, but i really should give the thing a clean out, but for a temporary solution this seems to work well, the screen doesnt seems hot either when it is closed upside down.

I would love to get a cooling pad, but that would mean money... and i dont have an abundance of that at the minute! :)

Anyway, if my laptop dies, ill be the first to tell people not to do this, but so far im happy with it
