    Hello,
I have MSI GT70 2pe dominator pro, it originally had nvidia 880m gpu but it overheated and I replaced it with NVIDIA 980M card
Following the upgrade I read that I have to update VBIOS to match the new card but I wasn't able to find a matching bios for this particular card,
all the vbios I found didn't match subsystem ID

Any help finding an appropriate Vbios is sincerely appreciated
    Card info: Nvidia 980M 8GB
    Device ID 10DE 13D7 - 1462 110B

Hi... If you are seeing that warning in NVFLASH it is common and you can answer "Y" (yes) to ignore it and proceed with the dash. I see that same warning when trying to flash firmware that is native to the GPU. But, I don't know that you actually need to flash it. If memory serves me correctly there wasn't anything special or different about an MSI 980M. Unless I am mistaken, you can probably just use whatever vBIOS is on the GPU now. Is the card malfunctioning, or are you trying to change the vBIOS because you believe there is a reason/need to even though it is functioning properly?

Hey, thanks for taking the time to reply

I originally wanted to use a compatible vbios to make sure the card works properly, I have been experiencing inconsistent performance in games and I thought using a more suitable vbios would help
Another minor issue was the fact that Nvidia Geforce expreince wouldn't update the driver past a very old version since i upgraded to 980m and I thought that was somewhat related

Are you suggesting I just force flash any Nvidia 980m vbios from techpowerup even if it doesn't match device ID? Do they all work with similar efficiency?

Why do you want to change the vbios? The vbios the card came with is almost always best.

The subsystem ID is meaningless. It's just the ID of your laptop. If your laptop did not ship with the card, then you will never have a matching subsystem ID.

Since my laptop came with nvidia 880m wouldn't that imply that even after upgrading my gpu, the new gpu would still operate using the old vbios?
Is it normal or expected that I am unable to update nvidia drivers following gpu upgrade?

Yes that is all normal. You need to modify the driver .inf files to install the driver.

    Alright, thank you so much

One more question if I may,
Since I fiddled with vbios a lot, do I restore it to the original vbios that came with the laptop(originally matching laptop's card 880m) or should I use any nvidia 980m vbios?

The vbios is on the card itself, on a small eeprom/flash chip. Don't flash a 880m vbios into the 980m or you will render the card useless and might need to use an hardware programmer to put the correct vbios again on the card.

Also don't flash any random vbios on the 980m because there are gsync and non gsync cards and each uses different vbios that are not compatible with each other.

Just flash the stock vbios for your card.

    Damn :(
I flashed a different vbios during earlier after I bought the card
Is there any way to reset it to stock vbios?
