We are planning on getting an ac router and decided on this one based on this CNET review

    http://www.cnet.com/products/trendnet-ac1900-dual-band-wireless-router/

Does anyone have an experience with this router? And problems or rave reviews?

Also, is this the best router to get in this price range, or is there something better that is out there for around the same price? Thanks

Short version - don't buy it.
    Long version is here: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wire...dru-ac1900-dual-band-wireless-router-reviewed

I stand by my recommendations from the sticky (no surprise, right?) and I would recommend a TP-Link Archer C7 v2 for roughly $100 which is better in pretty much every way (external antennas, two USB ports, better LAN-WAN throughput, better Wi-Fi throughput on both bands, better range) and is apparently cheaper.

    A revire for comparision: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/32498-tp-link-archer-c7-v2-reviewed?start=1

    Mind you - do not buy a v1 of Archer c7 - only v2.

I've been using a Netgear R7000 for over a year with no issues.
I have a desktop,3 notebooks,2 Android tablets,2 Samsung wireless laser printer and 3 Nexus smartphones connected to it
    I prefer external antennas
    I highly recommend it.

BTW,the R7000 firmware V1.0.4.18_1.1.52 was released a few days ago.
    Release Notes:
    1. [Enhancement] Supports remote access through the NETGEAR genie app. Note that you must download the latest genie app in order to use remote access.
    2. [Enhancement] Improves the Installation Wizard: Adds access point mode detection and new firmware checking and updating.
    3. [Enhancement] Supports 6rd IPv6, IPv6 dual stack in PPPoE, and the manual IPv6 DNS setting.
    4. [Enhancement] Supports VLAN/Bridge.
    5. [Enhancement] Increases the maximum port forwarding rule to 64.
    6. [Enhancement] Supports the traditional Chinese language.
    7. [Enhancement] Supports the XFS file system.
    8. [Bug Fix] Updates the DLNA decoder library in order to fix the issue in which some DLNA media files can t play.
    9. [Bug Fix] Fixes the port forwarding issue in which you can t use port 1194.

I've tried Kong's DD-WRT but always go back to stock

Thanks for the advice guys. I wonder why CNET gave the router I was thinking of a much better review than your other site...

If you read both reviews you'll see how much comprehensive smallnetbuilder.com is. This is a go-to website as far as networking equipment is concerned - simply these are people who know what to test and how to test it.

Is there a reason to get the net gear 7000 over the Asus 68u? The second one is cheaper, and they seem to do about the same
