What all stuff can you swap from one model to the next?

I'll start out with a couple that I know.

I believe the CF-28 battery works with CF-48 and CF-50

The optical drive caddy/floppy is good for CF-27, CF-28, CF-29

I think the keyboard works for the CF-27 and cf-28.
Not sure about night-light support across marks or whatnot.

I really hope I am not making a redundant thread.
Anything i have wrong, please point out. Any other parts, please add it in. If this thing takes off, maybe I'll turn it into a spreadsheet or some other sort of useful format.

Rickdog... I believe it is been talked about there before... But it has never been limited to one thread... Let's do one here and if it looks good and is fairly complete... We'll sticky it.

    Good idea!

I'm not sure how complex this thread will become... But we all must remember that even though some things will work between models... Not ALL things will work within models!

For instance... CF-27, CF-28 & CF-29 all share the same floppy and optical drive (CD/DVD) But you can't swap screens between all models within the CF-800 series without some soldering and/or minor changes. We need to make sure that is something is talked about in another thread and it pertains to this thread... That we point the discussion over here or at least post about it in this thread.

Wow. I'm really happy this is taking off.

I take it that the keyboard is in fact compatible between 27s and 28s?

Yup. Two of my 28's have 27 Rubber/Backlit keyboards.

The exception to the rule would be the backlit with hard keys, because it needs a third connector on the motherboard, so it won't fit into 600MHz 28's, nor any 27.

And some 29s too, at least it worked for me. I have swapped a 29 black keyboard into my CF28 and it works great until I find a rubber one in good shape.

Seems that a CF-30 handle mostly fits on (but is not an exact fit for) a CF-29.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=230864

I like the idea of storing the stylus in the handle, but I don't like the idea of spending $50 for the handle, $10 for a matching stylus, and $?? for shipping described as "nails you with shipping". So for now I'm using a cheap (3-for-$6) NDS stylus stored inside the media bay cover. :D

Standard keyboards are compatible between the CF-27, 28 & 29... However the illuminated ones are not. The 2-conductor rubber illuminated will work on the CF-27 & CF-28.... But the ones on the CF-29 require 3-conductor ribbon cables to work properly.

Port covers are all different between the 27, 28 & 29 but can be swapped between same models. (IE 800 MK1 fits 800 MK3) with the exception of the bottom cover (Battery and hard drive)

Hard drives are all different between 27, 28, 29 & 30. On the CF-28s... The 600MHz models have a shorter hard drive caddy... So 600MHz model caddies fit the 800MHz & 1GHz models... But the 800MHz & 1GHz models are too tall to fit into the 600MHz models. So... If you find a 600MHz caddy on ebay (They usually go for less than the 800 models) then you can install it in your 800MHz or 1GHz model.

What about touchpads? IIRC, Grav mentioned that the CF-27 and 28 shares the same part except it wasn't "glued-down" in the 27s

Keyboards are interchangeable between 27, 28, 48, 50 but a tad high in the 73.

Same batteries and dock replicators between CF-17 and CF-M34.

    *stands ready to be corrected*
