Here's a real oldie. Panasonic CF-62/61 series from 1996. Obviously the battery doesn't hold a charge, and I'd like to get it rebuilt. Did anyone do this back in the day - anyone know anything about its BMS, how to reset it, if it will work and see normal capacity again? There's very little info out there about these machines, and nothing I can find about the battery pack other than that it is an 11.1 volt 5750 mah unit.

Also, I can't find anyone who is willing to rebuild it for me - anyone know a person or place who will recell a lithium ion laptop battery? Professional tool battery rebuilders won't touch lithium and laptop battery recell firms are now out of business.

For what it's worth, any battery made for this machine is old enough to smoke and maybe drink. There are no new batteries, not even generics.

Do you have to use lithium ion? I have no real working knowledge of batteries, but you have a voltage and a mah. If there are more than 2 terminals on the battery what do they do? Do they give the battery a feed back. Wish you luck with the project.

The only re-cell project that I remember that worked was used using a chip that still thought the original cell's were good. So it's not a case of the battery it's self. It's the chip that has to be figured out.

I have read one time some of the really old toughbooks didn't have chips in them to set the battery level. If you have a battery to open and see your model may be like that. (just take precautions not to short it out or bust a battery)

I was planning one of these days to pick back up on my CF-25 project and do a new battery for it.

At one time I seen a generic battery pack that plugged into the charge cable slot.

All I know is that battery rebuilding/recelling is not fun. Just keep that in mind ;)
