well, I might as well replace the screen. The pink wire going to it has a broken connection. What do I need to know when shopping for a replacement?

I totally understand that you want to "do it yourself". Good for you.

You have a MK1 CF-19 digitizer....let me grab the specs...O.K. Oops, could that be a CDBAXVM? U does not show up.

MK1 Touchscreens had a problem with screen lamination. (As did CF-30 MK1)
MK1 Touchscreens needed a bios flash to run Vista/Windows7.

However...digitizers may be a little different.

So......to answer your question, you could buy a second toughbook with exactly the same model number for parts. (I say could)

How about repairing the broken wire...can you solder hair?

If it's broken where it wraps around the hub, you add a new wire, wrap it around the hub and solder inside the lower case and inside the lid. IOW cut the bad section out but do not solder at the hub itself.

    ____________________bad_________________________ OLD
    solder_______________wrap_____________________solder NEW

    capisce? Good luck.
