I'm sure there are multiple issues here, but these are the issues. Screen flickers and jumps, dim screen, reddish tint to screen.

I've seen posts that say replace the inverter and that should take care of the issue, but looking for feedback.

This toughbook is new to me, and I got it because I was bored and needed something to mess with. I know next to nothing about computers other than to search and check emails. I'd like to tackle this repair on my own, so any advice or direction would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Sounds like you have a Mk1 or 2. What is the full model number?

The "right" way is replace the inverter and the LCD panel, as both are showing age.

Not super hard to do,the inverter is fairly cheap , LCD is way too expensive for a Mk1 , in the $100 range for new. I have to say keep it for parts and buy
    A) a cheap Mk2 or Mk3

    B) spend the money for a Mk4

If it's just a toy ,go with A as the Mk1 touchscreens are crap, I had a mint Mk1 with less than 200 hours and a bad touchscreen, I paid $45 for it with caddy and battery, tossed it after I stripped it for parts. Slow as dirt also.

The only thing I found the 19MK1 good for is running my GPS. Everything else it was just to slow. Looking for another MK4 and up so I can take all the parts off it.

@Shawn did you say once that the silver cover/lid from a MK1/2 with not fit on the newer ones MK4 and up ? Been looking at a few MK5/6 but lids are in bad shape.

Correct. The early lids will not fit properly.
However, if you take a dremel, you can make it sorta fit. The black covers wont fit right but if you want the cheap rat rod look you can get by.

If you send me the lid, I will refinish it for you.
