This 2020 Ford Mustang isn't like the others - it has a high-performance 2.3-liter EcoBoost from a Ford Focus RS. Here's what makes it tick!

The new Mustangs are real nice. Was never a fan of the 2015β€”18 models.

Currently rebuilding the battery wires in my Mach 1 swapped '01 GT.

Unfortunately, the Mustang and Focus are RS are two completely different cars with completely different fans/buyers. As cool as it is, this mashup isn't likely going to sell very well.

If the Mustang is the only Ford car being made for the US market moving forward, those RS fans won't have another choice - this is their opportunity to transition over.

Buyers attracted to the idea of a four-door, all-wheel drive, high-performance hatchback are not going to move to a two-door, rear-wheel drive coupe with the same engine. They're going to instead move to the likes of the Honda Civic Type-R, Subaru Impreza WRX/STi, or Volkswagen Golf R.

That's not the point of the exercise, it's the RS engine and tuning that's being offered in the remaining Ford car platform, the sports car Mustang.

The Ford 4 door family will move up to an SUV or Truck.

Ford also canceled the Focus Active Crossover, and no electric car models have been mentioned yet - which is what some expected to follow Ford's cancellation of gas cars in the US.

There's been alot of rumors, possibly even an official announcement of an electric Mustang inspired car.

And? It's still not going to sell in any meaningful way because people who loved the Focus RS are not going to be interested.

The Focus RS was never marketed or intended as a family car so I don't know what you're going on about here.

Then they aren't getting a Ford. It's the best Ford can do to try to keep some customers interested in their brand. They only have so much to work with.
The Focus as you called it - a 4 door, is a family car, the RS model has been used as such by those that want 4 doors + room for a growing family, but haven't yet dropped the desire for a fast fun ride.

4 doors aren't needed to be a sporty car, 2 doors do just fine.

The Mustang with an RS engine, with room in the back for small kids, can be a replacement for the RS buyers. A real performance guy won't demand 4 doors, and the kids can climb in the back seat.

Ford may not sell a lot, but it's what Ford engineers have to work with. Why not let them build it?

I was raised with a Mustang and a thunderbird. Both 2 doors. 3 kids. No complaints from me.
