That's a pretty curious result. I wonder if:

    1. The battery in the 300 nits display machine is busted
    2. I was lucky with my 500 nits machine
    3. Lenovo managed to buy a 500 nits display more efficient than a 300 nits one
    4. All of the above / None of the above

WQHD non HDR is 300 nit as spec quotes I think, only the HDR one is the 500 nit.
Battery on the unit, maybe new, not entirely sure since I didn't check.

On the other note I requested a replacement CPU heatsink for the X1C6, insisted that I'd rather replace it myself rather than deal with Lenovo depot brainlets.

You are getting pretty good results with the FHD display, WQHD displays are bellow average. I would expect 1 to 2 hours difference at most.

Totally agree about replacing the heat sink yourself. Is is running uncomfortable hot or are you aiming to extract the max out of it?

Going to try and minmax the heat dissipation for maximum pepe posting and memes.

The QHD HDR 500 nits display is a LTPS type panel, which is much more expensive while allowing a lower-power consumption at a higher brightness.

I don't have an egpu module, if you're willing to lend me one I can test with a GTX1080 though.

Wish I could, but I don't have one. Was just wondering whether it would have worked. Thanks for the offer though.
