If it is a lidless laptop CPU, apply a line the length of the die. If it is a desktop CPU you can apply a big X pattern from corner to corner.

You're welcome. On the GPU, you can do an X or two parallel lines evenly spaced apart across the width of the GPU core. Either method works fine.

Funny, the tech who came to do my heatsink replacement (2nd one) brought Shin Etsu with him. I just bought Gelid GC-Extreme and just went with that. GC-Extreme works really well and is less viscous than most pastes.

Just some background. Old paste was gc extreme. Heard about icd scratching the die but if it is cosmetic and my buddy does not need to repaste, why not. It solved core diff issues too so that was surprising.

IIRC, he used colorless nail polish. Better ask your sister or mother. I don't remember the brand. I think he used a generic one which was available.

Any colorless nail polish (transparent) works as long as it is CELLULOSE BASED. That's all you need to know. You don't need any name brand. Just make sure it's cellulouse based. The ones that are not, please avoid.
