Yes, but even the simple weak mouth / nose mask accomplishes some useful effect, in that your mouth is covered so you can't touch it and transport the virus from something you touched to your mouth - avoiding breathing in that contamination. Also if you are infected and cough or sneeze the virus is mostly contained in the mask. If that is all you have then you should still wear it when potential virus exposure exists.

The simple mask provides some benefit, more if you can seal the sides and under your chin - and around the bridge of your nose - and glasses can provide some virus protection like a face shield can too.

Each attention to face / mouth / eye protection detail increases the protection, adding goggles, a face shield, on up through a full face sealed mask, or full head protection, with increasing importance the more exposure to the virus you expect to experience.

Protection from breathing in the virus is the most important as that is the virus "attack vector" that is most damaging as a respiratory infection as determined so far.

January 2020, the World Health Organization identified a new type: 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in China

"...Most coronaviruses spread the same way other cold-causing viruses do: through infected people coughing and sneezing, by touching an infected person's hands or face, or by touching things such as doorknobs that infected people have touched..."

Hey, he posted his "shopping trip" in full regalia - two masks, gloves, and swim-goggles:

Inside Wuhan: Daily life in China's coronavirus quarantine zone
    Jan 26, 2020
    Channel 4 News
Ben Kavanagh is working as a teacher in Wuhan - the city under quarantine as the deadly coronavirus continues to spread across China . He told us he was planning to venture out of his home one last time today to buy food and essential supplies before being stuck in his flat for the duration of the lockdown. He took his phone along to film it all for us. China's health minister has also warned that the virus is 'getting stronger'. 56 people have now died and more than 2,000 are infected - with many of those infected not yet displaying symptoms.

Coronavirus ability to spread ‘getting stronger’ says China
    Jan 26, 2020
    Channel 4 News
China is entering a 'crucial stage', the country's health minister has declared - warning the ability of the coronavirus to spread was getting stronger. 56 people have now died and some 2,000 are infected - with yet more stringent travel restrictions in force. The United States is preparing to evacuate its personnel in Hubei province - here the Foreign Office has urged any Britons in the area to leave if they can, with the idea of an airlift 'under review'.

Most disturbing, China Health officials say the virus is contagious during the incubation stage, and there are few external indications of infection.

Ben's getting a ride out of Wuhan to the UK on their flight out - soon?
