While the chances are good there can be the odd vbios issue (not all 680M systems work with the 780M). Hopefully not though :)

This may or may not give you some guidance on whether to flash the MSI vbios or not. MSI posted a new EC as well as a new BIOS for the GT60. At least they did for the one in my signature anyway. Anywho, the description for the EC specifically mentions the 970m/980m. I'm having trouble posting a picture of the page, so here is the link:

Here is the link for the BIOS too, in case you are interested:

Thanks for the response Meaker. Do you know if a GT60/70 would boot on iGPU if the system had a less than favorable response to the MSI vBios? If that were the case, I would hopefully flash the card back to the stock Clevo vBios.

Actually I did see that a few days before I got my 970m. I opted to not flash the BIOS or EC with those updates as I wanted to see if the system would work as is. Not to sound all conspiracy theorist or something, but after reading about Alienware issues using the new cards, I thought about what if a manufacturer released bios updates to somehow block upgrading to newer tech. I would hope MSI wouldn't do that but who knows these days.

Just installed and ran Far Cry 3 maxed out (including 8x AA) at 1080p for about 5 minutes. Avg about 35fps. Stock clocks on GPU. Maxed out settings except at 2x AA showed around 55 Avg.

I had an OSD as well to show clocks and temps.

Fantastic - that's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure. Yeah, I'll see how I feel a little later when I have the spare cash to drop on a GPU if I'll go for the 10xxx series or not.

Don't blame you at all - that's pretty much the reason I wanted to confirm it would work with mine if I did it as well, because I'd rather not have a large paperweight :p.

    Thanks again for the info!

It would likely not boot in anything but igp only mode and the card would not be reachable.
