Wait, so fan noise on the 970 is actually worse than the 870?

No, that post you referred to was conflating measurements from different tests with different methodologies.

Check for example this review, where Xentar712 actually had both GTX 870M and GTX 970M versions of MSI GS60 physically with him:

    MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K review - Nvidia GTX 970M & 870M versions

So no, when you do proper comparison, GTX 970M is more quiet than GTX 870M, exactly as you would expect.

He's quoting the worst numbers from the GenTech review of the 970m powered GS60 and GS70 - those where the sound meter was placed right next to the fan. Whereas all the other measurements are from NotebookCheck, who never positioned their sound meter that close. They aren't comparable measurements.

The fan is probably the same as the previous version, only at a lower speed to keep the temps stable. I need to verify that the fan speed is indeed lower somehow. None of the sensors pick it up so I need to look at the ecc fan profile, which is new to me. Maybe I'll look into it tonight

Nope ... For me having a 3K in a 15.6" is a stupid idea... and also it's way out of my bugdet so i have to wait for FHD which i hope so will make that laptop to not cost more than 1350 without VAT.

Wouldnt call it stupid, i would rather use "crazy" and "unusual" ;)
Though most of great inventions came to the world due to crazy and unusual ppl ;)

If you worry abt scalling than its not such a biggy - you just need to set few fings in browser and os, afterwards it looks normal (maybe except some unprepared programs that look either very tiny or blurred and pixelated ;)

    Bought mine for 7099 pln = 1690 eur = 1373 eur without taxes ;)

FHD should be 100€ cheaper :) and also if there will be version without Windows it will be again cheaper for next -100€ :) because I am student at IT University, I have one Windows 8.1 license for free :)

I am not worried about scalling, it's not even crazy or unusual... It's nonsense to have that resolution at so small screen :)

In other words - lets agree to disagree :)

Imho 3k looks amazing in every way and 970m is powerfull enough to use it natively in games.
