You would be way smarter to skip 4940MX and go with 4930MX. Reason: 4940MX is poo-poo-cah-cah. I have never seen even one example of it not being a piece of crap. It was Intel's last socketed mobile Extreme CPU and they half-assed it real bad. 4930MX, on the other hand, was the most powerful mobile Extreme CPU ever made. It utterly destroys every 4940MX I have ever seen. The 4930MX overclocks higher, more stable, with less voltage. The only reason you would want to use 4940MX is to sell it to a sucker that believes newer is always better.

I got QS edition 4940mx's which overclock well and give very good performance. One is on par with a 4790k at 4.6ghz. Your logic may apply to oem 4940mxs though. I got them both for £400 which is a bargain considering how high they can clock whilst being undervolted.

Yes they are illegal but I really don't care. Intel isn't going to ask for them back lol.

Here is some evidence, I put both processors in my i3 Lenovo laptop. Yes it's limited to 35w yet the laptop allows the cpus to draw 70w. Having a 65w power brick limits the clocks to below 4ghz and you can already see it beating most of the competition.

One 4940mx is first two benchmarks the second 4940mx is the second two benchmarks.

Bear in mind this is in a Lenovo which wasn't even made to cope with the thermal limits of this cpu and yet it gave out decent benchmarks. I had to use metal paste and an ice pack to cool the processor when it was being benchmarked.

Imagine how it will be in my alienware 18s if it performs half decent in that crappy Lenovo.

Clock Scaling above +40x will be somewhat different. Would be nice if you tried Cinebench R15.

I was wondering if @Prema 's mod would retain full function for other things like both ethernet ports working and the 2 m.2 slots? Also if the bios mod is only for the P870DM, or is it usable for the P870dm2/3? I saw another forum thread that they lost some functions on a p751dm2 when attempting a bios flash with the later version. But looks like Prema's mod is much more stable and overall better than flashing clevo bios.

Even if it's missing some of these functions, it's amazing what you guys have done with the old models. I wonder if in a couple months @Mr. Fox will even have tested Intel's 8-core in his Pheonix with Prema mod.

ES / QS chips perform better than retail samples?

Where can I buy exactly those chips?
