What was the last model of IBM Thinkpad that was entirely made by IBM?
When IBM still made a PC, are their qualities much better than their competitors?

T30/X3x/A31(p) are the last IBM designed and made machines, T4x/R5x/X4x are IBM designs but made by Lelnopo IIRC, and the T60 and up are entirely Lenovo designs made by Lenovo.

fyi lenovo took over IBM's PC division in 2005 so anything beyond that era is made by them.

Not quite correct. The ThinkPad T60 came out in early 2006, not even a year after the Lenovo take-over. The T60 was a complete redesign, such a product is not made in a few months. Its design was mostly done by IBM. Models like the T61 or T400/T500 were mostly based on the basic design of the T60, so you can argue that they too have been partially made by IBM. Those models really mark the transition-phase.

The first ThinkPad that was completely 100 % Lenovo made was the ThinkPad X301.

The branding is only marketing though.

This is incorrect, T4x/X4x/R5x were still IBM designs.T6x/R6x/X6x forward were lenovo design, with early examples still being IBM branded.

The latest and greatest IBM-designed machine at that point would be the T43p

As an aside, Lenovo made competent thinkpads up through 2011, mainly because they had been recycling IBM's design for so long. When they changed the keyboard layout, removed thinklight, etc, I wrote Thinkpads off as a dead brand.

The P5x/P7x laptops are built solidly; I would certainly not describe it as anything less than (highly) competent.
