I am totally impressed with what middleton has achieved!

I plan to use the X61 bios as soon as the final release is out (going to perform the SXGA+ mod so I need that in my modded bios, too), as well as the T61 bios for the T60/T61 I am planning with a T9300 Penryn.

I had come to peace with the idea of pressing Esc on every boot, but these news are just excellent!

I imagine I will not have any issues with neither of the two, and also plan to donate for such great work!

    Best regards,
    Panagiotis

    Hi middleton,

Thank you so much for taking the time and modding this BIOS, allowing us to use SATA II speeds!!

Quick questions, is the ISO supplied within the rar file modified as well or just a direct ISO from Lenovo's site? I read through the readme and wasn't 100% clear on this.

    Thank you again,
    Kamika007z

    Thank you!

I wonder if its possible to mod the T60 to allow more than 3GB of RAM>

I believe the chipset can do it (945), but was capped by Lenovo.

Can any else shed some additional light on this?

If you mean the T6600 Core 2 Duo processor then the BIOS mod has already been completed but is currently going under testing. This will go under the "Thermal Sensing Error" deactivation as the T6600 is a Penryn processor.

Hopefully it shouldn't be too long for the final BIOS release so you can use the T6600 for your T61.

    Thanks you!
YES, it is the T6600 Core 2 Duo processor .
The T61 bios supports T8300 Core 2 Duo processor but it can't support T6600 or T4400 etc.

Nope. Chipset 945 is limited to 3GB of RAM, and SATA-I. You can't do anything about it.

You can modify the bios of the T60 to get maybe extra few hundred megabytes of ram over the 3 gigs limit, but this is pretty much a pointless exercise.

    Hey everybody, especially middleton!
Found this post in the german thinkpad-forums.
Many thanx for Your work! I tried some time for myself to get this SATA2 thingy working, but failed, partly because I could not get the whole bios file in one piece (lenovo doesnt provide a method to read it, and the updates are splitted files).
I spent some time reading the datasheets and gathering most needed information though, so if possible, I would be very interested in the way, You finally got it working!
So if You're interested in some tech-talk, plz contact me. Email/MSN is in my profile. Thank You!

You can read the solution on how to liberate more 32-bit RAM on a T6x here. The process requiring:

    - unlocking D_LCK
    - set TOLUD to be higher
    - relocate ACPI tables to the higher address (ACPI sits just below TOLUD)

People running 64-bit Win7 can use all their RAM.

Amazing. This thread has had > 10k hits in the last week. Hope middleton's getting some donations.

It is not sad. It is outrageous. Especially considering that he did not ask for any specific sum.

    It must be disappointing.

9 donations? I bet you he's had hundreds of downloads, something he'll know for sure based on the downloaded mediafire file count. so might be getting 1-5% donation/download rate.

Is this a disappointing donation rate? Yes.

Other's are redistributing middleton's work. Consider the T61/X61 SATA-II+SLIC 2.1 bios hosted off a Chinese forum. The modder used middleton's sata-II bios files (the hard part, requiring skill), then added the SLIC 2.1 mods.

If you are seeing SSD/HDD performance increased from middleton's sata-II bios, then please donate.

Thanks for the info regarding the 3GB for the T60 all!

I seem to be having issues with screen dimming via FN+Home/End, but this seems to be only happening in Windows.

Is anyone experiencing this as well?

EDIT: Nevermind, I forgot to add a line in the INF for the nVidia driver to allow this to happen :)

how do you people know how many donations are going to Middleton's account? 9 donations sound awfully low considering how many people voted yes for donation.

This does create an interesting situation. You could create a T61 FrankenPad with the FlexView screen.

That was possible even before this patch.

Now our T61p Frankenpads are just much better than they were before (i.e. SATA-II, WWAN whitelist and no need to press ESC on POST when using Penryn CPUs)
