    Hey everyone,
I'd like to get views on the two laptops since I haven't seen any reviews of the dell yet.

Which of the Thinkpad T510 and the Dell vostro 3500 is better in terms of build quality, screen quality and durability, and most importantly keyboard feel?

And, how does the NVS 3100m compared to the 310m gt ?

    Thanks :)

On build quality, you're comparing the T'series to DELL business low end series product... T510 should be better, and fatter than V3500.

Next on the processor used, if i'm not wrong, T510 should be using the Penryn processors with the integrated processor not under the same cover.
V3500 is using the Core-i processors, not really as power saving as ThinkPad-T maybe.

As for the graphic cards, maybe i shall let the others to comment.

The CPU used in the T510 (i5-520m, i5-540m, i7620m) and in the Vostro 3500 (i3-330m, i5-430m, i5-520m) all have 35w max power consumption. There is a comparative of the actual power consumption here: http://www.notebookcheck.biz/Test-d...-i3-i5-i7-architecture-Arrandale.25657.0.html

Here is the info on the NVS3100m: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Quadro-NVS-3100M.24738.0.html
And here for the 310m: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-310M.22439.0.html

There isn't a huge difference in between those gpu.

Dell hasn't updated its latitude line yet. The natural competitor for the T500 was the E6500. The build quality of the Vostro is still unknown, but probably a serious notch below the T510.

Thanks for your views. I've never realised the vostro's were considered as dell's lower end business line.

I'll still wait for reviews to come though. And since I'm not in a hurry to buy a laptop, I'll wait till the end of the year to see Dell's and Lenovo's development.

But for now, my eyes are on the T510 :)

latitude and precision is the direct competitor to the T and W series of Thinkpad.

My buddy had a Vostro when I bought my T61, he said I got ripped off until a couple of months later when his Vostro began falling apart. The build quality of the T510 should far surpass that of the Vostro line. I've only held the T510 once or twice, but the Vostro to me is VERY cheap feeling.

Vostro is the "business" version of the Inspiron. So look for Inspiron reviews as well to get an idea.

You need to compare the Latitude to the Thinkpad, not the Vostro.

It was only the case for the Vostro 1*00 line (identical to the inspiron 1520). The vostro 1*10, 1*20 and the new line were/are not related to the inspiron.

You do realize that the 3500 is a whole new design that has nothing to do with the Vostro you've held, right ? While I agree that the Vostro 3500 is probably not as good as the T510 (and I wouldn't want to drop it or run a car over it), its actual build quality is unknown.

Considering what is asked however, there's little doubt that the T510 is better in all terms listed in the original question. Maybe have a look towards the HP 8540p for a true alternative.
