Have the shipping box for my XPS15 laptop and am ready to ship out my laptop.
But my understanding is that defective lithium ion batteries can be potentially dangerous.
Is my laptop safe to ship as is?

Wondering if I should remove it myself and NOT ship back to Dell
Also, how does one safely dispose of a defective battery?

    Any feedback appreciated!

How are you shipping it? So the battery is swollen and you're shipping the entire unit back to dell? Don't ship it air, ground shipping.

On'y real way to relieve any real potential for a fire would be to vent the battery and slowly slowly slowly discharge it to 0.00 volts while checking the temps. That's super risky and I'd only do that outside tho. Lipo's literally scare the crap outta me. I can handle 18650 all day, my ebike is a 104 cell battery and works like magic!
