I have been fighting this problem for some time and hope that someone here may be able to provide some insight to this issue. In the device manager my display adapters are shown as standard vga adapters instead of the actual amd and intel adapters. when I try to install the proper drivers from the HP recommended driver for this notebook they give me a error message "this computer does not meet the minimum requirements". This originally started when one morning the computer would not restart from a sleep state and I had to power it off. since then I have reloaded the OS ( Win 7 64 bit SP 1) and also tried reimaging the HD from new disks from HP both to no avail. The provided disks from HP would get stuck on a black screen when rebooting for the final time and the clean install would not allow the proper driver install and ended up with the standard vga adapter displayed in device manager with one showing a yellow ! mark by it. I have tried these methods multiple times with some slight variations to no avail. I am hoping someone can help me here.

computer specs: intel 2720QM (Sandy Bridge) Quad CPU
    AMD Radeon HD 6770M GPU
    8 GB Ram

Just go to intel and download the latest intel HD 3000 drivers and the latest AMD HD 6770M drivers.

    AMD
    Intel

So you cannot install either the HD nor the AMD drivers?

As I understand my situation with this notebook it will operate with the on chip Intel graphics when low power usage and can switch to the higher power AMD on board chip when gaming or other higher power applications are being used. So both graphics processors are used by the notebook and therefore HP developed a special driver to make this happen and I am told that only the HP designed driver will work with this setup on this notebook. That driver will not install as well as other drivers I have tried that should not work anyway but I tried them anyway out of desperation. I have been at this for a while as I said in my original post. And in spite of all my efforts I am coming up empty handed. I appreciate any ideas you may have to offer though or anyone else for that matter.

Well no, the feature you're talking about is enduro, it's nothing special and many notebooks have this, hence I'm asking you to install the latest drivers from intel and AMD since drivers from HP are very outdated and possibly buggy. I'm also asking you to install the intel driver first, then see if everything works then the AMD driver, if it then crashes then your AMD card is likely dead, since those AMD HD 6xxx series are noitorious for dying on you.

I am understanding you to say that this feature call enduro by AMD can be used instead of HP switchable graphics? Is there a way to tell if the AMD chip is toasted? Can i run on Intel graphics without it? Sorry for all the questions but this is all new to me. I have only been told in the HP forums that no other graphics will work in this notebook.

The "HP switchable graphics" is enduro. It's a software based thing from AMD. I already linked 2 links on my first post direcly to the drivers, just try and see if you can install the intel drivers. If it works, then install the AMD drivers, if your notebook then suddenly starts doing silly things like freezing or black screening on you, then its very likely that the AMD card is dead.

I did as you suggested and installed the Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver and it did work but no sooner than installed it displayed a Yellow ! and said

    device status:
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

the adapter would still function just no at the full resolution in this state. I installed the
AMD driver to find the same exact condition. I do not know if the switchable graphics is working or not. Does not show any indication of that capability.
