well im gonna go out on a limp here and presume that u havent heard of mythlogic`s upgrade program yet? good thing about that: u save quite the amount of cash compared to buying the barebone urself and installing all the components. plus once theyre done u can still sell ur old barebone and get some extra money back.

    cheers

Just wait until we get some Infos about hd7970m or gtx680m working in HM models.
Up that point providing they work fine it's up to you to switch to IB.
If you don't care just upgrade CPU and gpu and be happy with a monster machine.

well yeah, aside from the fact of course that upgrading from HM to EM doesnt really make sense at all, performance-wise :p as long as the 7970M is shown to work in HM, at least ^^

Whether battery life falls under performance or cosmetics is debatable. Also, mSATA could boost performance. But, I do agree that it's not worth upgrading from SB... Now, when haswell arrives it will be a different story. I wonder what the new model will be called?

it at all, mSATA makes a dent in perf cuz respective drives are smaller than fullfledged SSDs, unless u compare the situation with a regular hdd as a system drive ^^ besides, optimus just gives u what? like 1-1.5 hours more in productive battery time? id have expected way more, thus not really worth considering as a serious upgrade. the only thing that does intrigue me tho is the possibility of OCing the IB qm cpus, altho im not sure as to if at all and if so then which clevo models that would be possible with. so far it has just been shown in the alienware m17x r4, which has both advanced bios options for that and intel xtu support.

as for the name of the new clevo models, it probly depends on the haswell platform callsign (in case they decide to keep their system, that is): HM - huron river / EM - eagle river (before it was renamed chief river) / CM - colorado river? we´ll see :) i guess its gonna be something totally different tho, since its a completely new arch.

    cheers

The prices of those upgrades are RIDICULOUS. For 200$ more you can get new barebones p151em

I wouldn't be surprised if they simply resell your old machine and give you a new one at a massive profit.

they actually just transfer all the parts to the new barebone and send u the new machine together with the stripped old barebone for u to sell off as u please and get a nice amount of extra cash back. so its not that bad, considering u pay both for the barebone and the installation :) IF u were talking about the mythlogic program i mean ^^
but yeah, as an owner of an HM machine i dont really consider it to be worth it, really. unless u REAAAAALLLYYY need/want/desire that backlit kb, the mSATA slot and the extra 1-1.5 hours of battery life thanks to optimus ^^

    cheers

The p151em doesnt host the 7970, it can only bring the 675m when manufactured. ;) The P150EM can bring higher-end GPU's, like the 7970M !
