I can see 4gb ddr2 ram modules. Will these work in this laptop?

The old white MacBooks only support 4 GB total, I believe.

My parents’ old MSI whitebook of similar vintage still works. I was thinking of getting a CPU upgrade just to tinker with it.

Yes. Unfortunately I cannot install my digital copy of aperture anymore since Apple has blocked the store on vintage osx. I am working on getting 10.10 installed on it so I can use my software again.

As for the msi, I have my Acer 7720 running windows 10 and it's perfect

I think you can run upto 6GB. That is unofficial and won't work with all 2007 macbooks or with all ram. Check sites like this to confirm 6GB will unofficially work. Buy RAM from a site that actually tests and confirms those RAM modules work with your laptop (random RAM modules will unlikely work).

I have a 2007 MacBook Pro. Putting in a Samsung EVO850 (SATA SSD) made a massive difference in speed, so consider that. Unfortunately, in 2007 some of Apple's hardware supported SATA 3 speeds but Apple throttled speeds via software. So you don't get full SATA 3 speeds, but this is still much better than HDD for daily use. Your white MacBook might differ.

My 2007 MBP runs El Capitan (OSX 10.11.6) and Windows 10 in bootcamp (both took a bit of effort to install). I don't think either was officially supported. I did a lot of research fo upgrading to OSX Sierra, Mojave, Catalina but haven't found a way to install those (for hardware cutoff).

I also did some thermal mods with a Milwaukee HoleDozer lol. A repaste of the crusty thermal paste might be sufficient.

2008 MB/MBP/MBA can run the newest version of MacOS with a patcher, runs like a dream on a 2009 machine I got that was literally thrown out. Managed to sell another one of those for $60, Apple sheep pay loads for nothing I guess.
