Apologies if I missed something, but what SSDs are being used for CTO orders from Apple? Curious what sort of 256 gig SSD they're using.

I read somewhere recently (andant or ifixit) that they were Kingston drives with Toshiba Controllers.

I'm just starting down the SSD path in consideration of not going with an Apple SSD and changing it myself (or with a friend).

They have in the past used Samsung and Toshiba, which are fairly good controllers but any upgrade from companies command quite a premium and you'd be better off saving your money and buying your own SSD if you're comfortable with that.

Just read today on engadget about the next OSX release including TRIM support for the first time. I'm assuming that means that the current version of OSX doesn't?

The 256 gig SSD was priced at $540 (in the .edu store), which is a bit more palatable than what I remember Apple hawking solid state drives for in the past.

Crucial's 256 GB C300 is going for $499 on Amazon. For a 3 GB/s SATA pipe, looks like it pushes 265 MB/s for reads, and 215 MB/s for writes. Not too shabby. Marvell controller though, for what it's worth -- I'm a little behind on what the controllers du jour are now.

    Yep, that's right.

    That would be correct.
