No, you not only need to mod your own set of speakers but also have to make your own drivers that powers the speakers properly, otherwise even if you build your own speakers the sound quality will be really bad.

The drivers are not what make the sound good or bad; it is a complex art (not just 'science').

Your best bet is a good external speaker setup. Quality 2.1 systems usually offer the best bang for the buck (when audio quality, not mere quantity) is the goal.

compare start with 3:00 then tell me again drivers don't matter.

Everything matters (drivers, amp, speakers), if you have good speakers and a good amp but trash drivers which refuse to tell the amp to power the speakers enough it's going to be bad.

and before u ask, recorded with a podcast mic, same distance, same song, same position.

I'm not talking about the software drivers... I'm talking about the physical drivers... (i.e. the 'speakers' for most people).

We agree though that everything in the signal chain affects the sound. :)

Can I ask how you made your (software) driver? Good job, btw.

Specifically; are you adjusting frequencies or just power? Are you adjusting for phase shifts (if adjusting freq)? Are you doing this by ear or with instruments? Through my systems (I've tested on a couple of them so far) the Danishblunt drivers are different but maybe not necessarily better. But the song choice is an unknown to me too... ;)

Both power and freqencies as you probably already heard out from the video.
Haven't adjusted for any phase shifts.
    By ear
Song choice is a cover song from my favorite anime. If you have a song that youtube won't instacopyrightstrike the hell out of it, I'm willing to record stock vs my drivers so you can probably figure out what I changed and decide for yourself it it's better or not ;)

Thanks for the offer, but there is nothing on youtubeland that is worth considering to take up with your offer. :)

No slight to you; but I already cringed at 'podcast mic'.

Sorry, my tastes are music (i.e. preferably acoustic), not merely music like 'sounds'. :)

Most laptop speakers I think are designed to the following spec: "They need to exist and make a noise" Take out the ones that are in there and I doubt you'll be impressed with anything that fits in their place. Even a cheap external unit will be better.

Pretty much, but sometimes you can't really bring those speakers with you. So not having decent speakers are for some people a dealbreaker.

True. I've just given up on speakers in laptops and gone with headsets (or externals at home)
