I'm considering buying a Sony Vaio A170 (17inch WUXGA). I was wondering if anyone knows if it might be difficult to put in a faster harddrive (Hitachi 7K60, 7200rpm) since I can't see a slot for the harddrive on the pictures. Is it necessary to remove the keyboard and if so, is that difficult?

How likely is it that companies such as Crucial are going to offer memory for this notebook? It is not listed yet on their website.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate this forum,
    Axel

I emailed Sony about it and their response was that the hard drive and optical drives were not removeable so yeah you're gonna have to take it apart and thus void your warranty.

Thanks for your response. That's what I was afraid of. Maybe I should replace the harddrive after making sure that everything works well and hope for the best.

I'm not really familiar with warranty policies. If I would keep the original HD, and put it back in case something else breaks, would the notebook be under warranty in that case?

I'm not too familiar with warranties either, only that if you open the thing up then your warranty is supposed to be void. However, if they can't tell you opened it up then things should be fine for you anyway.
