I recently made an order for a clevo laptop off rjtech.com. I first did a bit of googling and found that people on this website have ordered from rjtech.com for a laptop. It seems there have been some people who successfully ordered from this website, however none in recent times.

Either way, I made an order last night, and then today i was emailed by order@rjtech.com requesting me to confirm an "authorization" amount (under $2) to my credit card (for security reasons???). I checked my online banking and sure enough, there was an amount that was charged under $2. I reported the amount back to order@rjtech.com through email. Shortly after, they emailed me back, telling me the amount I sent was wrong, and that they charged another small authorization amount and for me to confirm this new amount. I sent them back a screenshot of just the amounts from my online banking. I haven't heard back from them since (couple hours). I tried calling the company, and I get voicemail. Also, I searched up the address of the company and it looks like a random house in a suburb in California.

Does this sound like a scam? It would be very weird considering I have managed to find people who recommended this reseller on this website, and also other websites.

That's fairly common, credit card fraud has been a big issue in the industry and they have been around for quite a while.

they indeed have been around for quite a while and ive ordered a laptop from them without any issues. admittedly, that was 12 years ago, but yeah, that just goes to show that they are not a new kid on the block, right the opposite :)

Thanks for your replies. It has all been resolved. What happened was, the amounts they were charging me were in USD and I was reporting the CAD. Simple mistake, they eventually contacted me and we hashed out what was going on. The order was charged and should be processed tomorrow and shipped within 3 to 5 business days. Looking forward to getting the laptop. It seems buying clevo allows you to save a ton of money for a relatively fast performing computer.

I am currently using a 6GB RAM, 2.2ghz quad-core i5-5200U ASUS laptop running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and it is extremely slow anytime I run two seperate code bases locally with an opened IDE and postman. I went fairly cheap on the new purchase but I still think it should out perform by far my current laptop with: 8GB ddr4 2400 RAM and 2.8ghz 6-core i5-8400 and also 250GB M.2 SSD. I'm hoping the 8GB of RAM will be enough to run a couple instances of code locally, with many tabs in chrome and also an IDE open without any issue. Worst comes to worst, I can always upgrade my RAM by buying another 8GB stick.
