did you sell it? I have a 460m in my m17x r3 i would like to upgrade. Would it need a new heatsync or would the 460m one work?

I still have it and it should work with the 460M heatsink although you should double check by asking in the AW M17x subforum. It'll sell on a first come first pay basis.

    Thx.

I'd say most probably not. HP notebooks tend to have the graphics chip built/soldered into the motherboard as opposed to the MXM 3.0b standard used by Alienware/Clevo/MSI.

Hey! I'm really keen on your 580M but I doubt that its compatible for the Dell Alienware m15x right?

I've been googling after seeing your sale thread and the problem consists of the card drawing too much power as compared to lets say, an 6990M. Is this true?

I'm using a i7-740qm though. If its true, will getting a better power supply unit solve this? Currently the stock one is at 150W, I also found out that a few people have been using the m17x power supply, of 240W.

    Thanks man!

I use 6990m on msi gt660 with 150W detla psu - it works even with the same 720qm cpu - psu can shutdown only when you use gpu and cpu for 100% load and thats only possible with benchmark tool not gaming or anything normal
And im almost sure that 6990m draw more power that 580m :)
Then you should buy that 580m and be happy with current psu

    edit
last time i changed to 230w dell psu because is safe to but 230w than 180w - now i can load gpu and cpu with some OC options without any problem and get 200W usage on the wall [but that after 20% of OC that 720qm] and ofcourse load under benchmark not gaming

Both video cards have been sold and shipped. First one has already been received with the buyer leaving his feedback in this thread. Second one shipped out on Sept 4th and should reach the buyer after a short while since its going to an APO. Will update the thread once the second card has been received and confirmed in working order.

    Thanks.
