dude, you are looking at the wrong laptop for best battery life. try the max q variants. also alienware laptops have never included a MUX switch like those found in older MSI GT laptops where you can disable one GPU and use the other with a restart. this is an excellent feature and i dont know why not many manufacturers are keen on including it.

All I'm interested in is battery life when using only the intel cpu and gpu, I'm not asking for a 24 hour battery

I have a macbook pro 2017 15" that gets decent enough battery life and an Alienware 13r3 with oled. If this thing can get a battery life that's 'close enough' to the r3 (which already isn't exactly great) I'd highly consider replacing it

plain and simple. Area-51m will not give u good battery life. you'll be lucky if it can even touch 2 hours.

got for H class CPU and Max Q GPU for best battery life.

And like i said, the absence of MUX switch means you are NOT able to use the igpu. period. hope you understand

Expect up to 2 hour battery life on the Area-51M

My M18xR2 says Hi with it's 3-4 hour battery life, max brightness, no screen dim, no display timeout, constant usage. :D

If Clevo and AW had used a MUX switch and allowed us to switch to iGPU only, we'd be getting very good battery life.

This. Even if the battery lasts half a day, the performance is rancid.

Like I mentioned in my earlier post you may not be able too. Just because the Cpu has a built in GPU doesn't mean you can use it. The manufacturer making the laptop has to enable it. And on Desktop replacement laptops like this one they tend to not bother. So comparing it to a macbook pro or alienware 13 is like comparing a four cylinder car to an eight cylinder truck and wanting to get good gas mileage doing highway driving. It's just not gonna happen.

If you want good battery life and want an alienware then consider the m15 or m17. Based on your wants the Area 51m is not something that would serve you well at all.

According to the specifications the iGPU is going to be connected to the TB3 port on the side. This is the same way the old 17R4 / 15R3 worked, even if you had optimus disabled and the internal display directly connected to the nVidia GPU. If you really need battery life but still want a DTR get something like an i5 surface pro to carry around with the Area 51m. I carry a tablet with my WT75 and it doesn't add much noticeable weight to my backpack.
