Until a month or so ago, I had no problem with Sleep mode. Shut the lid and the TB would sleep. Start/ShutDown/Sleep and it would sleep. Worked on battery and AC equally. Sleep is obvious when the power light cycles on and off and the machine cools.

All of a sudden, none of the above do anything but black the screen. I reviewed settings, changed power modes (e.g., Balanced, Max Performance, etc.) No difference. The power light stays on and the TB doesn't cool down quickly.

There is still one way to get into Sleep mode that does work: The Sleep mode timers. If I leave the TB idle for the minutes in the Sleep setting, it will reliably go into Sleep mode. However, if I shut the lid first, it won't go into sleep mode.

I ran Powercfg to verify that both sleep modes 1 & 2 are available. (Hibernate has always been disabled.) I also ran Powercfg -devicequery wake_armed. It didn't show any devices preventing sleep. There was nothing obvious in the Event log, either.

Anyone ever seen this or have any suggestions?

I have seen weird stuff happen to laptops and sleep mode when the laptop is in sleep mode and the battery was removed or drained all the way down. Did this ever happen that you know of?

You could try shutting it down all the way and removing the battery, disconnect the AC and hold the on switch on for 20 seconds or so to drain all the capacitors. Then try to put everything back in and boot up and see what happens.

    Thanks for the reply.
    Not that I remember.

Interesting idea. I just tried it. Sorry, no joy.

A few days ago my laptop started going into standby normally. That is, I can do Start, Shut down, Sleep to go into standby. I can close the lid, on AC or battery, to go into Sleep.

Makes no sense. Guess it's just the laptop got tired of being ornery.

By any chance do you have a SSD installed in your CF-W8 ?
