    Hi everyone!

The palmrest on my x230t cracked recently, and after endless calls to support and filling a support claim, lenovo has finally agreed to replace it (it cracked around the bottom left rubber dome, whilst I was typing - I didn't drop or damage the laptop).

They're asking me to ship the laptop to one of their repair centers, am I correct in understanding that I have to pay for shipping?

If it matters, I have the standard tree year limited warranty and am in the UK.

    Thanks!

    Arthur

If its the standard depot warranty then yes, you're reponsible for shipping the item back to them. Lenovo should have provided you a form to state what items you're sending back and a description of your problem. It's worth noting that you can take out the hard drive from the machine but do state this on the sheet.

Once you filled out the forms and been given the address of the repair facility, if you wish to keep the original Lenovo box then use an alternative box to package your system. They will not return the original box once they have repaired the system which can be inconvenient should you want to resell it later.

As for shipping the item I personally use Parcel2Go. You get to choose which courier suits your budget and timeframe and usually I find them better value than Royal Mail. Plus it's convenient too as some couriers can collect the item directly from your home or work place so you don't need to go to the Post Office.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Got the form, didn't realize I could take the hard drive out - thanks for the pointer!

Guess I'll have to wrap it up as best I can then, definitely do want to keep the original box.

I'll go visit their website, but the post office is a short walk away from where I am so it'll probably be easier to just drop by..

    Thanks a lot!!

Huh, in the US they always send a box with a prepaid return label. I usually have about a 3 day turnaround. That sucks that they don't give all their customers the same treatment, I hope it's at least quick and effective.

In fact, I just back an E520 that had a motherboard and dc board go out, and they replaced a palm wrest that got dinged up a little bit.

Yeah I find it odd they charge for RMA, whenever I had an issue they mail me a box with a pre-paid shipping label, even with depot warranty.
