Those without Optimus, as far as I know.

Yeah, I have understood that too a certain point. I have an Alienware 18 and as I understand, this has Optimus; it has desktop recording support.
So, as you can see, I'm perplexed as to what laptops support it and what laptops don't.

The Alienware 18 has a MUX switch, so you can switch between optimus and dGPU only modes. Any laptop with a MUX switch such as that will also support shadowplay desktop recording, but only in dGPU or SLI mode (if it's a multi-GPU laptop). Shadowplay desktop recording is not supported when optimus is enabled.

So in short, any laptop that has the iGPU disabled or comes with a MUX switch supports shadowplay desktop recording. There is a comprehensive list here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/all-laptops-with-a-mux-switch.813459/

The list is constantly being expanded. You'll have to look at the more recent posts for details on the newest laptops.

You can use OBS to record your desktop in Optimus mode by following this guide.

Absolutely AWESOME! That's the info I was after; the explanation I wasn't fully understanding and the reason of why some laptops have the support and a list of them. Thanks, very much for your reply!! Salute!

That's really good info to know also; appreciate this reply. I just discovered that when my laptop's projected to my 55" TV, Shadowoplay Desktop Recording Mode will only record about 7 seconds and then disconnect the projection connection. So, yeah.....good to know of the OBS Desktop Recording option. Thank you! Salute!

Some days ago, on a whim of guessing Shadowplay was causing this issue of projecting to my tv disconnecting itself, I discovered just setting the Shadowplay Recording Option to not Shadow Time or even the option setting of setting both Manual and Shadow Time solved the issue; if anyone has or had this issue, simply setting the Shadowplay Record Option to only Manual mode will allow continued projection to function.
