    Hi,

    **Edit** model should be np700z3c-01

I have a problem with my 2 year old laptop that is giving me so much headache. I have taken it a local laptop repair shop and they couldn't fix the issue. The forum will be my last try before I refuse to buy a samsung product again.

The problem is my laptop fan not spinning. The fan is clean, has new thermal paste on it and it's in mint condition. However when I start windows the fan doesn't spin when the temperature rises. I've done a clean install of both windows 7 and 8. Initially the laptop will work well but after a while (particularly after a series of windows update) the fan refuses to work. All drivers, bios and software are up to date. I really don't know what is going on.

Even more frustrating as this is happening whilst I have massive projects to complete. Any help will be appreciated

This is not a common problem.

Fan management is carried out at the BIOS level. One test is to leave the notebook sitting at the BIOS screen - the fan should come on after a few minutes (or sooner) as the computer warms up.

If the fan is known to be healthy (did the repair shop confirm it spins when power is applied?) and properly connected then I would check that the BIOS is the latest (see this thread) and, if it is, then try reloading the BIOS and clearing the NVRAM (see this thread).

    John

Well my laptop has finally died i think. I believe it is bricked after installing Windows 8 and then updating the bios via sw update. All I have now is a blank black screen when I turn on the laptop. No bios or windows screen. The irony is that the fan is working now. Don't know what to do now. I'm tired with all the problems this laptop is giving me. I'll try and reach Samsung via phone. Knowing them in between they will be of no help, especially now that they have left the laptop market in the uk.

I responded to your post here in our bricking thread. Seeing your case here, I notice that John already gave you the reference to our latest thread about unbricking.

This is why cross posting is both frowned upon and actually a violation of NBR forum rules: It wastes other members' time. Admittedly, your case did go from that of a broken fan to bricking, so I understand your choice.

If the repair shop you used has an EEPROM burner -- and if the BIOS chip on your model is removable -- they may be able to re-flash the chip if you provide them the correct .ROM or .CAP file. Again, those threads that John linked has the information about how to get those.
