What are peoples thoughts on the differences in laptop performance?

I’m reading and seeing a lot that suggests the 3070 is not worth the extra cost.
If this is so, then I might just go with a laptop that has RTX 3060.

    Any views / opinion appreciated.

Gigantic discussion on mobile Ampere GPUs here.

Also, please be sure to post questions like this in the appropriate forum. This one is for people looking to buy specific laptops, not general hardware questions.

    Ahh ok.

The thread you linked to — are you kidding me? Lol
Might as well be in double Dutch.
That looks like a bunch of tech guys having a conversation about something for sure! What that is I have no idea....

xx60 class cards typically give the best price/performance ratio. Going above that yields diminishing returns for your money, although sometimes the xx70 class cards are worth jumping to. They aren't this generation though, so just go with the RTX 3060.

Max P 3060 and Max P 3070? Definitely go for the 3070. It all depends on TDP for the particular GPU though. TDP is everything this generation

I'd just take your typical 3060 and 3070 with similar tgp/tdp and see what the prices/specs are to compare. I've seen 3060 laptops from 1000-2000 but it's a hunt to get what version of the 3060 that comes with it. Usually the higher priced comes with higher tdp gpu, higher hz screen, i7, more ram. I think the minimum for a 3070 is somewhere above 1500, but the low end may have max-q low tdp version. I guess absolute the 3060 would be the best price/perf though. Look at 3rd party benches of the different versions of each gpu if you can find it.

why the heck would you spend an extra 600 over 3060 for a 5 to 10percent increase

No I was saying a full fat maxp 3060 would probably be the 1500$ one, a maxq 3070 probably the same higher tier price, 1500$. So for that same price I'd go for the 3070mq laptop that probably has an i7 maybe 16gb and the 10-12% better graphics perf. etc All depends on the specs for the price, for example a hexacore i5-10500h would be better then one of the new quad core i7's I would think.

If you're just looking for lowest price best value then yeah just get the 1000-1200$ 3060 version most likely the 65w boosted to 80w.

Yeah obviously if its the same price go for the 3070 but good luck finding a laptop with a gpu upgrade for free...like a gs66 with a 3060 is obviously going to be cheaper than a 3070 version....im not sure what your saying as all laptops are not created equal
