I think it will work. But you need the 100w Heatsink from M18X R2.

    That's way too cool.

Wonder if 4940mx is a bottle necking. I do have a mint Alienware 18 maxed out, I wonder if I should sell it or experiment on it.

Overclocked 4940MX should not bottleneck even RTX 5000, unless you play some game that is super CPU reliant. Even then you should be getting very good performance.

    Should work.

I remember @Baddemichl tested the RTX 5000 in m18x r2, but he wasn't satisfied with the performance outcome, I think.

Also it's a mess they changed the position of the fixing hole

The RTX 5000 was power limited to 80 watts I think. If the power limit was raised, it would perform better.

The 4940MX will be the bottleneck, because of optimus. To get the full power of RTX5000, you have to go up to 4,6 and higher on all cores.
If i can remember, the 49xx xm series was not the best cpus to OC.

Just a quick side note, there’s a guy on the Dell Community forum who’s running an 18 with a Clevo RTX 2080. I’ve asked him to post over here but he seems reluctant. He said it was pretty much plug and play with no modifications.

What about in M17xR4 with 120Hz display, there's no Optimus.

Clevo RTX 2080 is not plug n play, especially since it requires a mod to the MXM socket. @Mr. Fox did this in his P870DM but with 1080 I believe.

That’s what I said to him but I’m pretty sure he said he didn’t. I’d have to check what he said.
