So I got my KM1 from HIDEvolution in 2017 and it has been my workhorse ever since. Unfortunately yesterday it decided to freeze and now won’t power on. What is interesting is that on battery it won’t Post and will turn off after 4-5 seconds (screen doesn’t even light up. When I remove the battery and leave it on charger it will stay on indefinitely but still not POST. In both scenarios fans do not kick in when I turn the laptop on. Have already tried the hardest NVRAM reset I could muster and have done everything barring removing the vapor chamber.

Any idea on what the issue could be? I will have to call up HIDEvolution Monday as I love this laptop and need it for other stuff.

Edit: guess I should tag @Mr. Fox and @Spartan@HIDevolution just in case.

Could be component failure, I would try and test the cpu in a different system if possible and then work down the list of components.

    Vasudev and Papusan like this.

Darn I don’t have spare stuff to test with. I do hope it’s a mono issue and not let’s say the GPU.

Do any of the heatsinks get hot?

They don’t now that I think about it. When testing without battery they don’t get hot

LGP7lCS.jpg Okay here’s an update, I finally got around to popping out that vapor chamber and reseated the cpu and gpu. Now on battery I get fan spin before it turns off. Here’s what I have under the hood, hope it helps.

No CPU no GPU = no fan spin then off
CPU only = no fan spin then off
Add the GPU = fan spin then off

Sounds to me like a dead GPU but try to find someone with an MXM gpu to pop in there for a few seconds until you have image on screen to confirm. Any Nvidia MXM later than Fermi should work to boot. Where are you from?

Try popping the GPU out and see if the CPU gets warm when you start it out.

And if the CPU gets warm:
    1. you can then pop gpu back and see if that gets warm
    2. if gpu gets warm. (even dough GPU die still can be dead)
    3. take out ram from laptop and try to boot with only 1 stick in different slots
    4. program a stock bios with programer
    5. Only then consider that mobo or/and something else might be dead.

CPU is as cold as ice. Only GPU gets warm.

update: forget I said that both get warm
