Well I am trying to restore my CF-18 MK1 and I keep getting Error #49 write fault I figured maybe the disk 1 was bad but got another one and still get the error at 17% .
Well so far I have tried 5 harddrives, 2 different cd enclosures, 4 cd drives, another caddy and I even tried to use a XP Pro OEM disk and I get to 19 minutes remaining in setup and it just stays there " installing start menue"...think thats what it says  Any ideas guys

I had an issue something like this a while back and it turns out something had corrupted my Master Boot Record. Once I did a format MBR, the install went off without a hitch. Doesn't make sense as I think the MBR is on the hard drive. But......... something about the failed install corrupting the MBR??
    It worked for me.
BTW, missed out on a $250 CF-19 yesterday in Skowhegan; if you can believe it, the guy said that it sold real quick!?!?!?!?!?

The fixmbr command in the recovery console has save me several times from my misadventures.

    Blair,
Somewhere in here is a post that describes I think he used four different drive manufacturers before one took. You've probably seen it.

Did you set to defaults...pull battery and power and hold the switch till your finger got tired. Maybe un-plug the cmos battery too?

How bout running a Linux Live CD? Using a different USB port? Throwing it against the wall? :)

:nah: I'm drawing the line at discussing laptops, not girlfriends; I might stay out of trouble following that rule.
But, Blair, I would not throw the lappy if I were you; it would probably fare better than you would.

I would wager the on board RAM is probably toast. Can you run MEMTEST on it?

Rob would probably know, but I do believe that at the percent complete, it start loading the program files into RAM to begin the install process.
