I have a ASUS GL551VM which is similar to the older ASUS G551. After looking on YouTube for dissassembly tutorials for this laptop, I noticed that there are more thermal paste on other components besides the CPU and GPU under the heatsink. I have experience with replacing thermal paste on laptops and desktops but this one is new to me.

It looks like there is thermal paste or some kind of material other than a thermal pad on the black chip looking things. I researched how to replace thermal paste on this and other asus rog laptops with this design, but there isn't much information. There are some videos like the older 17 inch rog models but they seem to only repaste the GPU and CPU.

Does anyone have any information about this? Like if the paste is the same as the one for CPU and GPU? If these black chips are the same height as the processor/GPU. I assume ASUS put paste on there for a reason.

On a side note, does anyone know what that square aluminum plate on the left side of the ram is for?
