So my GTX 980M has broken down and there is a good chance I won't be able to repair it.

I emailed with where I bought my laptop and they say these are the only ones that are compatible with my laptop. (somehow I doubt this is the complete list since i saw some listings of 1070 with my laptop but yeah)
    (note my laptop uses G-Sync)

    GTX 1060 6GB (N17E-G1) - P775DM3-G
    GTX 980M (N16E-GX-A1-6G) - P771DM-G
    GTX 980M (DA2-G) - P771ZM
    GTX 980 Desktop (N16E-GXX) - P771DM-G
    GTX 970M (N16E-GT-6G) - P771DM-G

If you look here on Alie-Express:
    https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesal...24&SearchText=gtx+980+m&productId=32977438615

Or on Ebay for that matter you see lots of options.
    https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=GTX+980M+N16E-GX-A1-6G&_sacat=0

But you see also they look different from each other (colour differences and or difference in how the parts are placed on the boards)

Can I trust this? I see them selling around 300 dollar.
Which 970m or 980m would you trust according to how the pictures look to the original and or person selling it?

Dunno if 1070's are confirmed in it, the listings usually just include most model numbers. I'd go for a 1060 if you can find it for ~300-350 USD, if not go for a 980M for like ~$300, can usually find them cheaper off taobao however. I'd say you can trust that listing

Look for ones that have Clevo menitoned in the listing, since cards made by others e.g. Dell won't work

Also an indicator of original Clevo parts are the small stickers that clevo usually put on them e.g. S-BJAEKJH and a production date e.g. DEC-'15
Not absolute because they can fall off or be removed ofc

I am in the same boat, currently looking at the Quadro P5200, although that should be quite an adventure with regards to EEPROM chip and correct vbios ;)

Not worth it IMO, way too much money for what it is, even considering the already ridiculous amounts you pay for normal laptop parts

This laptop cost me 2200 euro and I want it to be able to still play videogames. If a 300 euro replacement can do that for me. I say it's worth it.

Just bought a RTX 2080 system since I can't wait for parts to arrive for my laptop.

Is that really true? I am not sure I have looked through EVERY single link on Alie- Express and lots of ads will say it's for BOTH, CLEVO and DELL/ALIENWARE ETC.
I will post a list of all the people selling it and you'll see:

    http://www.mediafire.com/file/jk4k0gb2pn6fncj/MOBILE+GPU+ALIE+EXPRESS.txt

In this list I have index on price all mobile GPU cards. As you can see in this list some GPU's look different to each other.
Some have extra chips, or the chips look different alltogether even when it supposidly is the same chipset type/model.
Some have NVIDIA logo, some have not.
Some have a GPU-Z screenshot(most don't). ALL of them except one which cost 600 dollar has a correct GPU-Z which is the same as me.
    The incorrect GPU-Z have:
No openCL, No PhysX, pixel and texture fill rate are lower wtf?
    PCI E 2.0 x8 ? I have PCI E 3.0 x16. This is my GPU-Z http://prntscr.com/nakkqq

Appearently there is also G-sync to take into account? I have G-sync laptop. would a non g-sync gpu not work in my laptop? Or just not have the function of G-sync.
Also all the listings that say clevo is supported ussually say P770 DM-G. But I have an P771- DM-G but is never listed on any list.. Should be fine since my retailer that chip should be supported? but idk..

How do I know truly if I have the same GPU as mine :(
Currently I am not trusting it at all... Even if it does work.. reduced performance.. and for how long since they make be fake....

One thing I noticed is on my pictures of my own 980m is I have a heatsink on the backplate of it. Which most of the ones advertised on alie expres seem to be missing.

Can someone give me an example of one of the links in the list which should be official according to the pictures?

I was talking about the P5200.

The taobao pricing is $1k, which is insanely expensive for what it is.

um no, its insanely cheap for what it is. have u checked regular p5200 prices like over at eurocom or other resellers? theyre in the range of 2.5k ;) thats the usual quadro markup, my friend, so 1k for a 1080 style mobile card is not that bad. clevo 1080s dont go for much less (im talking new pricing, not the cheapest used one u can sometimes find on ebay ;) )

plus, dont forget, we are basically talking about a 1080 with 16GB GDDR5 in standard 3.0b form factor. for machines like the DM1 this could be pure gold :)

Its insane for its performance, and not going to lie, if you or someone pays that price for one I strongly hold the belief you're silly. That is final, and have you checked prices for normal desktop grade 1080's? Theyre circa $300-350, which is literally less than 1/3 the price. The whole "b-but its a laptop card!" doesn't make much sense to me, they should be cheaper if anything that desktop cards.
