Just ordered the X220. Since machine does not come with recovery disks, searching here for how to make the recovery disks.

Some says the first is CD, some says DVD, I guess both works, but just have to make sure (since some also says there is only one shot, true ?)

I have/had both a T420 and now a X220 notebook. On the T420 I used three DVD's without issue to burn the recovery disk. The X220 I used one CD and two DVD's

Another member also used 3 DVD's by-passing the CD disk. Hope this confused you a bit more ;)

On my T61 I did CD first. The directions on my W520 said CD or DVD, so I went with all DVDs. Used them without a problem immediately to set up my SSD.

The first disk is the boot disk: it does not contain any OS image information, and is thus quite small and fits comfortably on a CD. There's nothing barring you from using a DVD if you really want to, though.

The second and third disks contain the OS image: there's a lot of data, so both the disks will be nearly full, and must be DVDs.

So, in short, CD + 2 DVDs or 3 DVDs would work.

It doesn't hurt anything to use all DVDs. That's what I did and it worked just fine. You wont have any problems. :)

Hmm, mine was 4 discs. First was Boot CD, then 3 DVD's (I think the last might've been small enough to be a CD).

What are the procedures, for creating recovery disks?
Do I need to do anything special on the first boot?

first boot setsup Win 7 preferences and than you use it.

I used all DVDs for my T410s, but as MidnightSun said the first disk is small and could fit on a CD.

I don't know about elsewhere, but here in Canada there is no point in using a CD instead of a DVD since CDs are more expensive.

Try it again. Happened to me with the T420 model and I had to do it three times before it took.

W520 used 4 DVDs ... 1 boot, 3 data. I use boot to startup then proceed to recover with intel 310 in the drive. It fails saying 'Windows cannot verify the digital signature ...'. So I figure use F8 on reboot and turn off signature enforcement. Still no go, it says recovery finished but boot from SSD says windows is corrupt. Anyone seen this before?

I used a 16gb SDHC card to get the factory image restored to x-25m, the system seems fine.

Anybody knows if I can burn the image from the usb card to other media like dvd or hard drive?
