Re-mapping the ThinkVantage Key?

Hey guys,

I just completed a fresh install of Vista 64 on my t400 and I'm wondering if I can remap the ThinkVantage key so that it launched the Windows Mobility Center (also shortcut winkey + x) instead. Is this possible?

I do not believe it is possible to remap the ThinkVantage button, although I may be proven wrong.

AutoHotKey and Key Mapper are a couple you can try.

 

Well, I know someone who removed the recovery partition, and installed linux in it. They then used the Thinkvantage button as the "boot into linux" button, and didn't have to touch the MBR

I realize it's not what you're looking for, but still a neat idea.

 

we discussed this a few years ago over on TPF.   all it takes is a simple registry key edit.   i gave examples of how you can create a batch file and run various apps within windows.

Erik: do you think that would work in Vista x64? The second link says 32 bit. It should work (no reason for it not too) but I'd just like to make sure.

(not that it matters, really... if I screw stuff up I have a HD clean HD image to fall back on now =P )

 

of course.   the instructions i wrote on TPF were for vista x64.   the only difference is the path to applications you might link in a batch file.   32-bit apps will be in the "%system root%\Program Files (X86)" directory instead of "%system root%\Program Files".   other than that, there's no difference.
