Dear experts, I need your help. I have Alienware area51 m15x (first gen- 2008)>>> https://www.notebookcheck.net/Alienware-Area-51-m15x.8027.0.html

I have 4 GB (2x2GB) in m15x. The best way I would leave one dim of 2GB inside and install 4 or 8 GB in second slot. The question is: does motherboard support 4/8GB RAM in one Dim? If yes I'm not sure what kind of Ram I should go for. This laptop is 10 years old. Another question is fraquency of ram? I do not know what max MHz motherboard support?
Please could anyone help what kind of RAM I should go for? Links to product would be nice

It just came out to my mind CPU upgrade. Is it possible to upgrade better cpu to this my laptop? I have Intel core 2 duo T9300 2.50GHz. If cpu upgrade is possible what the best cpu I can install?

    Please help

    Hi
It looks like it can take 8GB eg.
but being honest I don't know which exactly sticks he used.
Max cpu you can use officialy is T9500, but it is marerly 100MHz faster so I don't think it's wort the hassle. If you really, really need faster CPU, there is one more option: use X9100 and overclock it with ThrottleStop. But that require to do small mod on the CPU socket and there is a question if cooling will be sufficient enough for this.

Faintly remember upgrading to 2x 4 GB DDR2 So 667/5300 MHz. 8 Gigs that's bout the max it can take, official speech was 4 Gigs, and no single 8 Gig Sticks possible iirc.

How about Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000? It has got the some FSB and I remember alienware ship m15x with this cpu as well. This was the fastest cpu which people could buy m15x. Intel core 2 Extreme x9000 won't work?

Right, so if I install X9000 everything should be OK?
You mention about X9100? To be honest with you I would prefer X9100. But this X9100 has got FSB 1066 MHz instead 800,will this won't be a problem ?

I will get from ebay 4gb ram plus that 2gb ram (what is already) I will leave, so all together will be 6GB RAM.

Thank you everyone for your help, much appreciated. I will stick with intel core 2 Extreme X9000.
