So I am planning to add additional RAM to my Laptop. I have 1 more slot to add another RAM (Total of 16 GB). But I wanted to ask something before I do this. This will be the first time I ever installed a new RAM on my computer so I ask, is there anything I need to check before I choose the correct RAM for my laptop? Is there anything I need to do before installing a RAM? Does it need to be exactly the same as my current RAM card installed, including brand?

My Current Laptop's specs is on my signature.

For best compatibility and to minimize the chance of something going wrong, you should buy RAM in matching pairs. If you can find an identical module to what you have now, great. If not, 2x8 GB kits aren't very expensive.

Make sure you take off your socks before touching your ram otherwise the static electricity in your body will fry them the moment you touch them. Happened to me before

If you want to get matching ram as mentioned, you could use a free program like CPU-Z to see what model is in your computer without having to open it up. Just check the SPD tab in that program for model and manufacturer.

Try HWiNFO64 - or look at the sticker on the RAM for the info you need.

Hyundai merged with Hynix (formerly Lucky Goldstar Semi), so it's likely SKHynix memory you will be looking for.

Any 2400mhz CL17 ram will work fine with it.
