    1060 will cost more

965m will max battlefield 1 not sure where you get your facts from. but a member here with a 880m maxed it at 50fps on the beta version. 880m=965m.

ps emulators rely heavily on cpu. make sure its a i7. but obviously it is.

maxing in my terms is above 30fps some form of aa and all sliders up. if you agree then expect to max everything except xcom2 and witcher 3. you will be able to max most new games by my terms for another year with the odd exception. future proof wise it will last the typical 4-5 years untill you have to lower resolution on the majority of games. 2 years out minus 4-5 leaves you with 2-3 more years of satisfaction if medium/low doesnt bother you on the last year with most games... but tbh sometimes the best games can be well optimised and play well even maxed on old hardware just dont expect crysis 4 esque games to be more than a slide show

heres the proof grabbed from page 3 of the forum from OPs first comment on BF1

    quote:

Hello guys, I managed to get access to the BF1 Closed Alpha. I was testing the game out on my AW18 and running the game maxed out & DX12. Please note that this game is running with a single GTX880. Force render frame 2 causes the driver and game to crash. I could get 40fps average and the max is 50fps.

Due to the NDA Agreement, I can't post any screenshots but I will once it has been lifted. Just thought I might share this detail with you guys. Also desktop GTX980 is running around 90fps on ground battles. Air battles is 120-150fps maxed out @ DX12

    Thanks for the input!
Indeed, I was checking the *new* 965M benchmarks and I suddenly realized it does just as good (if not a tiny bit lower) than the 880M, which would suit me perfect because I'm not even willing to run games like Crisis 4 (GTA V is an exception, but as long as I can play the game smooth at 1080p regardless of the settings, it should be satisfactory).

I honestly cannot sit and wait for the 1060 laptops to be released just to find out they are overpriced. I'm in an urgent need of a laptop (preferably before September), and I need something that could stand out in terms of overall performance for a couple or more years.

The 970m laptops are gone from Microcenter. There are still ones going for close to $1k at newegg. So the next-gen laptops are near.

With the 1060 being round 980 performance, it would be worth it to hold off. but the 970m should be in 1050Ti territory. The 970m should last a while, most games are console ports. Plus the 970m has a much better VRAM bandwidth, which is the thing that is probably going to kill the 965m the quickest ...even before the 2GB VRAM limit.

I can see the 970m lasting the console generation for ports, but not the 965m.

Well that's why I said it, 40fps average would make me drop a few settings, I'm shooting for magical 60. If 30+ is all you need it'll max it no problems.

I really wish I could wait. I'm sitting next to a dying 6YO laptop and I can't keep using it for another year in the university. Even the charger is no longer working properly and I have to fix it every month to keep it operational.
Pascal laptops won't be coming too soon here. I know they will be announced in big retailers the next month, but I cannot in any way wait for 4 to 5 months for Pascals to come to the retailers nearby. (Yes I asked them, they bring new products but it usually is too late compared to the official announcements).

I made this thread because my budget is extremely tight (1150 euros) and the best GPU I can afford is the 965M (MSI GE62 is currently on sale for 1050EUR). 970M still sell here but they are too expensive. I just wanted to know how long this GPU will survive, excluding better and more expensive options and of course excluding the fact waiting is worth it. :/

Do you have the tweaked 965M?

I live in Morocco, but I buy electronics from Ceuta (A city in Morocco but follows the tax rules of Spain, so basically it's like I'm buying a laptop from Spain).
The laptop you referred to does not sell in Spain, unfortunately, I checked with 2 retailers and they have never sold Proteus laptops. Hell, 965M, 8GB of RAM and no SSD costs 1080Euros. 970M laptops with minimum configuration start from 1500 euros, which is something I can in no way afford before September 15th (must have a functional laptop at that time).
